DSC

is a method for measuring the amount of heat released or absorbed by a sample during heating, cooling or an isothermal process (constant temperature).

Samples the size of a punch circle from an office punch are placed in a crucible in a miniature oven and the heat difference to an empty reference crucible is determined. A defined heating and cooling programme is used for film analysis. During phase transitions such as melting or evaporation, but also during crystallisation or glass transition, the heat quantity differences are determined.Typical quantities are: Crystallite melting points TpmMelting enthalpy delta HGlass transition TgStandard: DIN EN ISO 11357-3
