Total migration

Total migration is regulated in Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.

It determines the transfer of substances from a packaging material into a simulant food. Depending on what is being packaged, there is a plethora of simulants and test parameters, but these are precisely regulated in the regulation and its annexes. Specific migration is distinguished from total migration.
